Buddha – one who is awake
The word Buddha is derived from the Sanskrit “budh” meaning to be awake. Siddhartha Gautama is credited with being the first Buddha. He is the man that woke from slumber realizing that consciousness is dreaming reality into existence.
Everyone is a Buddha. We have merely forgotten this is so. We are asleep, caught in the illusion that everything is real. We believe that we exist in a material reality and that we are separate from all things. This is the source of our suffering.
